Parent & Tot is the perfect place to start if you have a child who is 2-3 years old. The Parent & Tot programming focuses on developing the foundational skills required to successfully participate in our SwimAmerica Learn-to-Swim Program for kids ages 3-12 years old. Membership in the Parent & Tot program includes 4 lessons per month at your specific lesson day and time slot on a recurring monthly basis. Our curriculum is designed to get your child comfortable in the water and getting wet. We teach fundamental water skills including safe entry into and exit from the pool, incremental introduction of going underwater/water submersion, flutter kicking, and front and back floats. As your child advances in skill level over time, our coaches are able to scale the difficulty of each drill to match the progression your child is making.
If you have a child between the ages of 3 and 12, then our SwimAmerica Learn-to-Swim Program is for you!
Our SwimAmerica Program has 10 Levels. One day 1 your child will be advanced to the level that fits their current ability. They’ll be placed in a small group of 2-5 children who are all working on similar skills. The levels start off assuming your child has no current swimming ability, then advanced them systematically through floating, kicking, freestyle arm movement, and breathing to the side of the stroke. In our more advanced levels (6-10), we start introducing other strokes, as well as other water survival skills and diving. By the time your child graduates level 10, they’ll be able to swim 12 lengths of the pool freestyle without stopping, as well as 1 length of the pool in the 4 competitive swimming strokes (butterfly, backstroke, and breaststroke).
Children are advanced to the next level once they demonstrate the required skills of their current level. While learning to swim at the level 10 ability can take some time, you’ll be able to watch and cheer your child along as they grow from Level to Level and become a stronger and more capable swimmer!
Our SwimAmerica Teens Program follows the same format as our children’s SwimAmerica program but is populated with kids that are 11-17, so your swimmer-in-training will be surrounded by their peers while they learn the necessary skills to be safe and comfortable in the water.
If you have a child who is currently on a competitive swim team, but maybe isn’t getting the level of technique instruction that would help take them to the next level, then our competitive stroke instruction is the program for you! Classes are 45 mins long.
Old City Swim School is the perfect place to perfect your swimming ability or to learn from scratch. Regardless of your previous swimming ability or experience, we have a program that will be a great fit in taking your swimming to the next level.
Our Adult Learn to Swim Program follows the SwimAmerica level system, which is designed to find your specific limiting skill and teach it to you. Regardless of your current ability level, we’ll find the right level for you and get to work improving your swimming technique.
In level 1, we start teaching you how to get your head wet and blowing air through your nose. Level 2 we teach floating on your stomach and back. In Level 3 we introduce the kick. Level 4 we start teaching you how to use your arms. In Levels 5 and 6 we work on breathing to your side in a seamless freestyle stroke. Once you pass Level 6, you’re eligible to advance to our SwimWOD (Beginner) program.
SwimWOD (Beginner) is great for anyone who can swim one length of the pool while breathing seamlessly to your side (vice picking your head up for that much-needed breath). If you’re looking to compete in your first triathlon, or simply want to be a stronger swimmer while getting a great workout in at the same time, this program is a good fit for you!
SwimWOD (Advanced) is where we really start to polish your technique while giving you the aerobic endurance needed for limitless fun in and around the water. This program is great for former competitive swimmers, aspiring triathletes looking to improve the swim portion of the race, or any adult simply looking for a great, low-impact fitness option.
Regardless of your swimming background, Old City Swim School would love to help you take the next step in improving your swimming ability.
